Interesting response to the fallout (here and here) from last week's E3 presentation:
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has apologized for the approach the company took at this year's E3 press conference and the perception that it has abandoned the "core gamers." He tells Forbes that the feelings of neglect Nintendo fans might be feeling is a "misunderstanding" and the company wants to "get rid of that misunderstanding by any means." Iwata explains "big titles" require time and Nintendo didn't think this was the year to announce any.

| Computer Question |
[Jul. 23rd, 2008|09:17 am] |
Normally I can figure this stuff out myself, but this is beyond my technical knowhow and I need advice.
I have an HP Pavilion a1020n.
The system specs say my RAM type is DDR2 PC3200, and I have a gig and a half worth of 3200 in there now.
I sauntered over to Crucial after checking Tigerdirect and NewEgg and finding slim pickings. Crucial says that I can use DDR2 PC4200. Is this the case? If so, are there any stipulations? Can I mix and match 3200 and 4200?
I'm also looking at upgrading my video card. The best I can find (bearing in mind that my system ONLY has PCI slots, no PCI express or AGP) is this card or this card. Any recommendations of one over the other? Any suggestions I haven't been able to find?
The ram is really the biggest question, so any help with that would be much appreciated. |

| Pedal GR tonight (Wednesday) |
[Jul. 23rd, 2008|12:20 am] |

Here's a link to the ride route: http://amyandjosh.net/pedalgr/2008/07/17/72308-pedalgr-ride/
I'm really excited about this week's route. There's a ton of great stuff to see, including a relaxing ride along the river, the I-196 pedestrian tunnel, Millennium Park, and a tour of the Versluis Orchards with Nate Versluis of the Founders Ales Racing Team.
Remember, this ride is for ALL skill levels, and no one is left behind. I repeat, if you are an inexperienced cyclist, we will work to make you feel welcome and comfortable in a great group setting. And there's cold beer (water and soft drinks, too) inside at Founders after the ride if you're of age!
One more bonus. I talked to Nate Versluis tonight and he said that the peaches are just getting ripe and we will be able to have some of the first ones, straight from the tree. AWESOME!
Don't miss it! Bring your friends! If you can't make it, send your friends a link to http://www.pedalgr.com and tell them to get their asses in their saddles and come down. See you tomorrow night! |

| Roommates Needed! |
[Jul. 22nd, 2008|05:04 pm] |
Hey guys! So my roommate and I are currently living in Laker Village and we're sick of paying too much for it, so we found a house three miles from campus.
It's 350 a month plus utilities (since we're students, she's knocking off $100 a month). There's three bedrooms and a den/office that we're converting into the fourth bedroom, a deck, huge yard, washer and dryer, gas stove, microwave, hardwood floors, huge kitchen, and we're getting a turtle because the owner isn't allowing furry animals.
We are two/maybe three easy going girls who aren't really into partying at all. We study, share food, speak random foreign languages, and have a five foot Snoopy. Don't worry, he's house trained. ^_^
We're looking for another girl (sorry guys) who we can have some fun times with and share memories together and all that other good cheesy stuff.
ETA: We're also looking for free/super cheap furniture, so if you have any, let me know |

| Sold out Wii games...? |
[Jul. 21st, 2008|03:29 pm] |
I know that the Wii itself and Wii Fit are still very hard to get (at the manufacturer suggested retail price). Just yesterday, my brother just suggested that Mario Kart for the Wii is a good game to get, and I just noticed that I haven't been able to find that one in stock anywhere either. I had no difficulties finding Brawl or Hottest Party, so not all games seem to be so rare.
So, I was just curious about what else I'm missing. Are there other Wii games that are known to be difficult to find in stock? Or did I just get lucky on being able to find Hottest Party and Brawl without any effort? |

| pets need home ASAP |
[Jul. 20th, 2008|09:05 pm] |
Hey all, Some "friends" of ours have left some animals in our care, and they need to be rehomed as soon as possible. There is a cat, female, possibly pregnant, no one is for sure. Very shy, apparently was a stray, not declawed, but is housebroken, and gets along well with other pets. She really needs a good home, and we're asking a $25 rehoming fee for her. She's orange, brown, and white. Very cute. We also have two baby bunnies that need to be rehomed ASAP. They're about 10 weeks old, sex unknown. One is black with a white nose and belly. The other is mostly white with a couple butterscotch spots on its back, and its ears. Both are very lovey, and are in desperate need of a new home. Asking a $10 rehoming fee. Thanks guys!!! Tori |

| | Tonight - DBSK | ] | Hello all! This is my first post to this community ^^. Anywho I'm in the need of songs, in the hip hop/r&b/dance variety, with any type of duet between a male and female singer. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it has a fast and/or dancey beat. I'm also looking for any song with the words "King" and "Queen" in it, same genre as the others. If you know a song where they at least say it in the intro that'd be great. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! |

two important things that stood out.
1) wii motion plus will not have any effect on previously released games. i'm pretty sure most of us assumed this, but here's the definitive answer. 2) NEW PIKMIN, HELL YEAH!
it doesn't sound like any footage of it will be released this week. it actually sounds like miyamoto wasn't even really ready/planning to announce it. |

This is a long shot, but:
If you are or if you know Martha Daddario who goes to school at Ferris State could you please let her know that I found her purse (that appeared to have been stolen from her) last night and turned it into the police. The wallet was gone, but her student ID was still in there. I just wanted to let her know in case the cops hadn't told her yet. |

| Ozone Action Day Part Deux - Edited to Include Friday the 18th |
[Jul. 16th, 2008|12:20 pm] |
Terry DeBoer announced today on the noon news that Thursday, July 17th will be another Ozone Action Day for several counties in Michigan!
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality calls the shots and this is their site: http://www.wmcac.org/forecast/forecasting.html
and http://www.wmcac.org/forecast/todays_forecast.html So.. that means that once again public transportation for the Rapid (Ottawa County) and the Max (Ottawa and Allegan Counties) are free! Honestly the last Ozone day we had here the drivers were so frickin happy about. They didn't have to mess with any cash boxes, no paperwork and no transfer slips. Hopefully tomorrow will be just as nice for them :) Woohoo! :)
ETA: Friday July 18th will be another OAD :) Enjoy! |

| And now for something totally different... |
[Jul. 15th, 2008|03:08 pm] |
I signed up for a GameFly account and got my first game last night - Chocobo's Dungeon.
Now, I'm not typically a hold-my-hand gamer, but rather a I-can't-bear-to-miss-anything one. Which is why am excited about the idea of Chocobo's Dungeon. Heck, I actually went back to play my old Might and Magic games a few months back because I wanted to play a game that was so random that I didn't need a walkthrough to make sure I got every piece of treasure. Chocobo's Dungeon seems like a cross between Might and Magic and Flame Emblem (only Flame Emblem for kids or for stupid people like me) so I was pretty pumped. Even so, after I died several times in a couple dungeons, I went looking for a simple walkthrough on the different dungeons.
And there aren't any.
There are lots of forums and posts about the various secrets to Chocobo's Dungeons, which I enjoyed reading, but there's no "Here's a list of the dungeons and when you can go to them and when you SHOULD go to them," sort of walkthrough.
So, I decided to write my own. Yeah, I know I'm about a week behind everyone else, but it's also kind of for my own reference. Anyway, I've never written a walkthrough before, so wish me luck?
Edit: Oh, and I feel obligated to offer this short review.
So far, Chocobo Dungeon is a lot of fun. Simple, it's true. Some of the scenes are a little cheesy, no doubt about it. But, COME ON. It is totally impossible to say anything even remotely bad about a game whose main character is as absolutely, unbearably melt-into-a-pile-of-goo adorable as Chocobo. *squee*
That is all. ;) |

Dear people nerd raging over Nintendo's Media Briefing,
Hey! How are you guys doing? Oh? Pissed off? That's not good. What's got your knickers in such a twist? Oh, you guys didn't like the media briefing, that's too bad. I didn't realize you guys worked for ABC's morning news show.
You don't? Well, then surely it's another network morning show. No? A major, mainstream publication then? Maybe just a small town newspaper? Huh...so, you guys don't work for a mainstream press outlet, at all?
Well, I have good news, then:
Today's media briefing was not for you.
Yes, that's right, today's media briefing was for (ironically enough) the media. Mainstream media, to be exact (as in not IGN or Gamespot or whatever site you frequent). Tomorrow on morning news shows across North America, they will talk about Wii Sports, and Wii Music, and all that jazz. They won't talk about games like Call of Duty or complain that there isn't a new Zelda. Because they don't care about those games. Their audience doesn't care about those games. So Nintendo makes sure they show games that will ensure the main stream press talks about them, so that they can get their name to the last few people living under rocks, who still haven't heard about Wii.
But, y'know, it was only 75 minutes. 75 minutes out of a week that they pandered to someone other than you. Remember when Smash Bros Brawl was announced? That wasn't at the media briefing. If memory serves me correctly, it was the end of second last day of E3. So, why not wait until, I don't know, E3 is over before you start with your indignant rants.
Besides, if you remember how Nintendo was back in the 64 and Cube days, we were lucky if we got 2 AAA titles in one year, and we've already gotten 2 in the first six months. Just have some faith. Or go sell your Wii. I don't really care what you do, just keep the rage outs to yourself.
kthxbai
I should also mention that the Games Convention held in Leipzig, Germany, is about 5 weeks away, and it is the show for hardcore players. So, if E3 doesn't bring something you want, Leipzig might. |
